Ruston is the perfect spot to find fun for the whole family, and we’ve created an itinerary for your stay so you don’t have to.
To begin your day make your way to Common Goods where there is an array of breakfast options along with smoothies for the kiddos and specialty lattes for mom and dad.
For a family that likes to try out local flavors, Ruston has a great variety of family-friendly dining options to discover. Some local favorites include pizza at Rotolo’s, Cajun cuisine at Ponchatoulas, barbeque at Brister's BBQ, Tex-Mex & more at Log Cabin, and a burger from Flying Burger.
For your post-meal sweet tooth, we recommend a cupcake from Uptown Downtown or some frozen custard from Eskimoe’s, which is conveniently located next to a playground so the kiddos can burn off some energy
The Ruston community is rich in art, and sprinkled throughout the city you can find pieces of work from several talented artists. Spend an afternoon searching for the many murals across town and get a map to find all 11 bulldogs that are a part of the Bulldog Project.
Visit the Eddie G. Robinson Museum. Grambling State University’s campus is the home of the impressive Eddie G Robinson Museum. The museum gives you the perfect opportunity to learn about his life and the legacy he left behind. Find out if you have the strength and precision that it takes to be a collegiate football player with interactive activities!
Go watch a performance at the historic Dixie Center for the Arts. They host musicians from all over the country on their stage. Ruston Community Theatre also often puts on shows and musicals at the Dixie. Check out our calendar of events to see if there is a show happening while you’re in town.
Dive into sportsman’s paradise at Lincoln Parish Park. It’s truly a sportsman’s paradise with all of the outdoor adventure it has to offer. Choose from mountain biking, fishing, swimming, or going for a walk, or do it all if you want! And, if camping is your thing, we highly recommend spending a few nights on their campgrounds to be in tune with nature.
Have a little family competition. Spend an evening throwing axes with the family at Bayou Axe or head out to Ultra Zone for a paintball war.
Go shopping in historic Downtown Ruston. Ruston has a year-round Farmers Market where you can find farm-fresh produce and hand-crafted items from local vendors. To make the market family-friendly, they’ve added a kid's corner so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Along with the Farmers Market, there is a wide array of shops and boutiques downtown, so you can shop for the whole family. For mom, we recommend The Fashion of Ruston, for dad we recommend 5.11 Tactical, and for the kids, we recommend The Children’s Shoppe. A few of our other favorites are No 9 Books and Records, Garden Baby, The Collective, and Kickz Throne. Head over to our website for a full list of shopping options.
Take a trip to Mitcham Farms peach orchard. There you can find fresh peaches and the most delicious peach ice cream when peaches are in season. Don’t worry if you’re coming in the off-season, there are lots of peach goodies in the store year-round.
We hope this itinerary was useful and that you and your family enjoy all of the fun, food, and adventure that Ruston has to offer. For more information on any of these attractions, or for other trip ideas, visit
