Mitcham Farms - Located just northwest of Ruston, Mitcham Farms has been a staple of the community since 1946. Around springtime, Mitcham Farms begins selling its famous peach ice cream in The Peach Store. Their peach soft-serve, made with real home-grown peaches, hits the spot on a hot summer afternoon. There are plenty of other local peach products that the store sells, including candles, salsas, and dessert mixes. When the heat is too much, heading to the beach can be the perfect solution for outdoor fun! The beach at Lincoln Parish Park is a highly-rated attraction and offers one of the best places to relax and cool down. Swimming during these hot summer days is the perfect family outing! They also offer kayaks to enjoy while you hang out at the lake. Another way to play around while keeping cool are the Splash Pads! With three locations throughout Ruston's Parks, find the best place to splash around and create memories with your family.

Entertainment

There are several options this summer to get out of the hot weather. The Dixie Center for the Arts has a fantastic lineup of performances and musical artists. Check out the newly restored Gem Theater in Dubach for screenings of new movies, but in a building from the past. Many of the local restaurants feature live music throughout the week as well. Check out our calendar of events to see when the performances are. Celebrity Theatres also offers summer movie fun! On Tuesdays, For $5 you can enjoy the newest films with special popcorn and drink deals.

Get out of the sun and enjoy the AC in one of our museums or art exhibits! Cool down while getting to experience history and art right here. One of the must-see attractions in Lincoln Parish is the Eddie G. Robinson Museum, where you can learn about the legacy of Grambling football and Robinson’s remarkable life. To learn more about history, you can go to the North Louisiana Military Museum and admire the veteran-curated collection of aircraft, weapons, training gear, and much more!

If art is what you’re interested in, don’t worry! We have something for you, too! Check out Creative Exchange, a gallery and shop filled artwork, products, and supplies. They also have workshops and events throughout the year, including Creative Meet Ups every Monday! It's the perfect place to appreciate local artists and even buy some of your own supplies. Be sure to head two doors down and Check out the Gilbert Center for shows of local and regional artists that make browsing so much more special.

For all of you who love to read, Ruston has several options for you to check out! Rolling Hills Bookstore has a great selection of gently used books from varying genres, as well as a coffee shop so you can sip while you shop. Also make sure to check out the Lincoln Parish Library. They have books for adults, teens, and children. The library has many events to engage with over the summer - a great way to take a break from the heat! Check out their events here. Downtown Ruston is home to the No. 9 Books and Records. This is the perfect used bookstore to head to for a cozy vintage feel, and you can browse their selection of records as well as books!
