Beat the Heat in Ruston-Lincoln Parish

June 26, 2023Written by: Anna Graney

Things are heating up this summer -  the perfect time to find fun ways to cool off and enjoy the town! Whether you love swimming, strolling through museums, or relaxing and enjoying entertainment, Lincoln Parish has it all for you!

Lincoln Parish Park

When the heat is too much, heading to the beach can be the perfect solution for outdoor fun! The beach at Lincoln Parish Park is a highly-rated attraction and offers one of the best places to relax and cool down. Swimming during these hot summer days is the perfect family outing! They also offer canoes and kayaks to enjoy while you hang out at the lake.

Movies

There are several options this summer to get out of the hot weather, and what better way than heading to the movies? The Dixie Center for the Arts is hosting FREE family-friendly movies on select Tuesdays all summer long! These fun experiences begin at 10:30 AM and include delicious buttery popcorn and a refreshing drink. Celebrity Theatres also offers more summer movie fun! On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10 AM, they are showing classic movies for the whole family! For $6 you can enjoy familiar favorites with a bag of popcorn and a drink!

Indoor Activities

Get out of the sun and enjoy the AC in one of our museums or art exhibits! Cool down while getting to experience history and art right here. One of the must-see attractions in Lincoln Parish is the Eddie G. Robinson Museum, where you can learn about the legacy of Grambling football and Robinson’s remarkable life. To learn more about history, you can go to the North Louisiana Military Museum and admire the veteran-curated collection of aircraft, weapons, training gear, and much more!

If art is what you’re interested in, don’t worry! We have something for you, too! Check out Creative Exchange, a gallery and shop filled with work from local artists. Don’t forget to head over to Ruston Artisans, a local art studio that showcases community art and hosts several educational workshops and social events throughout the year!

Bookstores

For all of you who love to read (whether in a hammock or in the AC), Ruston has several bookstores and libraries for you to check out! Rolling Hills Bookstore has a great selection of gently used books from varying genres, as well as a coffee shop so you can sip while you shop. Also make sure to check out the Lincoln Parish Library. They have books for adults, teens, and children. The library has many events to engage with over the summer - a great way to take a break from the heat! Check out their events here. Downtown Ruston is home to the No. 9 Books and Records. This is the perfect used bookstore to head to for a cozy vintage feel, and you can browse their selection of records as well as books!
