This fall, we’re celebrating our local Ruston restaurants and the signature drinks and dishes that have made them must-visit dining spots. Each week, we’ll highlight a handful of signature menu items from local restaurants for each course – from drinks to dessert.
This week, we’re putting a cherry on top of the Full Course Feature series with some of our favorite sweet treats. These signature desserts are a perfect way to end a memorable dining experience in Ruston.
Uptown Downtown has quickly become a staple of Ruston with their variety of sweet and savory options. While they have dozens of treats to choose from, locals can’t get enough of their salted caramel brownie bites. They take a homemade brownie bite and top it with creamy chocolate icing and a drizzle of salted caramel. Go ahead and give us a dozen.
Often described as tasting “just like grandma’s,” Hot Rod’s peach cobbler is a must-try dessert. While you might not expect it, this little BBQ joint serves up some of the best peach cobbler in the area. We’re still trying to get the recipe. Do yourself a favor and try it the next time you’re craving cobbler.
Another unsuspecting, yet delicious dessert to add to your list is the homemade cinnamon roll at Flying Burger. This fluffy treat proves that cinnamon rolls are definitely not just for breakfast. If you need some extra convincing, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to your roll. You won’t regret it.
While it’s easy to eat your weight in chips, salsa, queso, and other tex-mex favorites at El Jarrito, we recommend saving room for dessert. Especially when dessert is fried cheesecake. They start with their homemade flour tortilla, add cheesecake filling, roll it up, and fry it to perfection.
Eskamoe’s is known for their amazing frozen custard, but the Brookie is a true showstopper. This drool-worthy treat is made with a warm brownie on the bottom, a scoop of vanilla custard on top, followed by a warm cookie, then topped with caramel, hot fudge, roasted pecans and whipped cream.
We hope you’ve enjoyed our spotlight series on all the amazing culinary options we have here in Ruston and Lincoln Parish. Be sure to try some of these drinks, dishes, and desserts for yourself next time you’re in the area.
