Our Favorite Free things to do in Ruston

June 24, 2022Written by: Maggie Dinkins

Summertime means more free time, and oftentimes free time means spending money. But contrary to popular belief, taking a trip doesn’t have to mean emptying your wallet. There are a number of free things to do in the area so you don't break the bank while you’re in town. We’ve made a list of fun, free things to do during your next visit to Ruston!

Catch an Exhibit at a local Art Gallery

The local art scene in Ruston is alive and thriving, and local establishments like Creative Exchange, Ruston Artisans, and the Lincoln Parish Library host exhibits throughout the year. If there’s an exhibit going on while you’re in the area, you won’t want to miss it.

North Louisiana Military Museum

If you are a history buff, the North LA Military Museum is your place. This museum features an extensive collection of war relics and memorabilia that just about anyone can appreciate. Although the museum is totally free, we highly recommend giving a donation to keep it in good shape.

The Bulldog Project

Scattered all over town are 11 unique bulldogs that were painted by area artists! Download the map and make it a fun activity for the whole family to find them all. Be sure to tag us in all your photos @rustoncvb.

Eddie G. Robinson Museum

Robinson. This museum is full of interactive exhibits, fun facts, and history about one of collegiate football’s most winningest coaches.

Go to the Park

Make your way to any of the area’s many parks to enjoy some time in nature. Hideaway Park, Cook Park, and Huckleberry Trails Park are a few of our favorites, but you can find a full list of parks here

Mural Hunt

Grab your crew and a camera and go on a hunt to find all of the Ruston murals. Most of them are within walking distance of each other in Ruston’s historic downtown, so you can enjoy all that Downtown Ruston has to offer while you’re hunting.

Rock Island Greenway/Ruston Fitness Court

If exercise is your thing, then tie up your sneakers and make your way to the Rock Island Greenway. Get some strength training in at the fitness court after you finish running, walking, or biking!
